The U.S. plans to create an Asian version of NATO to maintain its hegemony in the southern region. It aims to include countries like Japan, South Korea, Australia, and other Asian allies in the grouping. These countries have good ties and trade relations with the U.S. and share similar interests in development and finances.

Apart from the Western version of NATO, the U.S. will also create an Asian version of the bloc to confront threats in the geographical region. However, the development has not gone down well with China and the Communist nation is looking to thwart the idea. China wants to take control of the southern region and fears that Asian NATO could bring its power down.

China has made it clear that it is against the interests of the U.S. planning to create an Asian version of NATO. Lieutenant General Jing Jianfeng of China said that the U.S. idea of creating an Asian NATO is “doomed to fail”. He also called the U.S. interests “selfish” and blamed Washington for poking its unwanted nose across Asia.

A new global poll conducted by CGTN shows that 93.1% are against the concept of the U.S. creating an Asian NATO. Only 6.9% of respondents say that the idea is good and the U.S. must move forward in creating the alliance.
Lieutenant Jianfeng said that Asian countries must not pay heed to the U.S. NATO ideas. He explained that Asian countries must not be “U.S. war chariots” or consider “taking bullets for the U.S.”
“The real purpose is to merge the small circle into the large circle of the Asian-Pacific version of NATO so as to maintain the hegemony led by the US,” said Jing, a member of the Chinese delegation.
